On Wednesday, people in a residential building in Geeta Nagar Phase 7 on Mira Road alerted the police, complaining of a foul smell emanating from a flat. Following this, a team from the Naya Nagar police station reached the flat, broke open the door and found the decomposed body parts of a woman.

The body was of Saraswati Vaidya, who had been living with her live-in partner Manoj Sane in his flat for the last three years. The police have arrested Sane. According to police, the accused had killed his partner a few days ago and was living with her body in the flat.

Manoj Sane killed Saraswati Vaidya and chopped her body into 20 pieces using a tree cutter which was found in the living room, the police said. Black plastic bags were also found in the bedroom of the flat which he used to dispose of the body parts.

He also boiled the body parts in a pressure cooker and hid a few parts in buckets that were found in the house, police said.

Police found three buckets inside the kitchen of the flat, which had chopped body parts and blood inside them. Many cans of air fresheners were also found in different rooms in the flat which the accused had used to hide the stench, police said.

Hairs of the victim were kept separately in the bedroom, the police found.

According to the police, the smell emanating from the flat was so pungent that it was extremely difficult for the cops to carry out the search operation. While several chopped pieces of the woman's body were recovered from the flat, some body parts are still missing, police officials said.

The murder also brought to mind the grisly murder of Palghar resident Shraddha Walkar, who was killed and later her body was chopped into 35 pieces in Delhi last year by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala. Police had discovered air fresheners and incense sticks from his house, which he used to ward off the foul smell.
