Blowing out SEC opponents on the road is apparently good
The Ole Miss Rebels racked up the weekly honors after their dominant 63-31 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday.
It should come as no surprise that quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Jordan Watkins both were named the Offensive Player of the week, splitting the award. Dart had a record-breaking performance for the ages. He passed for 515 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. His 562 total yards on the day broke Archie Manning’s school-record of 540, set back in 1969.
While Dart had an exceptional performance, he couldn’t have done it without his favorite wide receiver on the day, Jordan Watkins. He broke two records of his own, both in receiving yards (254) and touchdowns (5). Watkins joins Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith as the only two in SEC history to have a 250-yard, five-touchdown performance against an SEC defense.
On the other side of the ball, sophomore linebacker TJ Dottery earned Co-Defensive player of the week and defensive end Princely Umanmielen took Defensive Lineman of the Week honors.
Dottery ended the day with five tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack fumble. Umanmielen had two sacks on the day, along with a fumble recovery in the endzone for the first touchdown of the year.
The Landshark defense continues to have an impressive performance, but their biggest test of the season will come this Saturday, when the Georgia Bulldogs come to Oxford. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. With a high chance of rain during the game, we’re about to find out just how good this defense can be.
