Nov 28, 2023Reno sweeps into fall: Residents warned not to rake leaves into streets
As fall arrives, Reno's street sweeping operations are in full swing, continuing daily, weather permitting, until all roadways are cleared. City officials remind residents that it is illegal to blow or rake leaves into the street, as this can lead to clogged stormwater drains and potential flooding.
Residents are advised to place leaves in their trash cans or bag them in 32-gallon bags with an "excess waste sticker" for curbside pickup on trash day.
To assist with the street sweeping efforts, the city asks residents to trim trees away from the curb line to provide sweepers with a clear path and to move parked cars before their scheduled sweeping time.
The city will not conduct sweeping in construction zones until projects are completed and contractors have left the site. Additionally, areas with new slurry seal will not be swept for at least one month to allow the streets to cure properly.
If a street sweeping schedule falls on a holiday, the city will reschedule the service for another day within the same month.
"We appreciate your assistance, combined with our efforts to keep Reno streets clean," city officials said.
