April 2023 tractor registrations: Cork leads the way

May 25, 2023May 25, 2023

There has been an "increased" level of activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland, with new tractor and telescopic loader registrations continuing on "an upward trend".

That is according to the FTMTA's statistics service report for April 2023, which shows that the numbers of imported used tractors and machines registered for the first time in Ireland increased compared with the corresponding month of April 2022.

The April 2023 Irish new tractor market at 211 units was 1% lower compared with the same month last year.

According to the body, the year-to-date figures are 6% higher than the same period in 2022, with 1,170 new tractors registered in the Republic of Ireland so far in 2023, compared with 887 units in 2022.

As is always the case, County Cork continues to deliver the highest number of new tractor registrations at 150 units for the year-to-date, while Tipperary is ranked in second place with 98 units, followed by Wexford at 97 units.

Two power bands had equal registration numbers; they were the 101 to 120hp category and the 121 to 140hp category, which each accounted for 18.48% of all new tractor registrations.

Tractors in the power band lower than 100hp accounted for 11.85% of all new tractor registrations. The over 200hp category increased to account for 11.85% of all new tractor registrations.

Meanwhile, the FTMTA data shows that 293 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in April 2023, 193 units more than in April 2022.

There were 1,122 used tractors first registered by the end of April 2023 compared with 800 units for the first four months of 2022, a very significant 40% increase.

Note – The FTMTA statistics service reports are compiled from monthly raw data received from the Irish Revenue Commissioners, who are responsible for all first-time registrations of new and used vehicles in Ireland.
